Ramon Sangüesa, antiguo compañero de este blog, amigo y uno de mis referentes intelectuales ha vuelto finalmente a la blogosfera con su Conectando que es gerundio. Las ideas que yo volco en este blog de tanto en tanto tienen, en muchos casos, mucho que ver con conversaciones (sean orales o escritas) con Ramon. Su visión de la innovación y de cómo la potencia de las redes en su sentido más amplio y las conexiones que estas generan están cambiando o pueden cambiar el mundo es privilegiada. Como no podía ser de otra manera, es en TED donde he visto otra vez plasmada y abordada una de mis preocupaciones más acuciantes en los últimos tiempos. ¿Cómo nadie está aprovechando la potencia de las herramientas de diseño actuales para hacer emerger realidades a partir de datos en forma de visualizaciones potentes?

Hans Rosling y sus colaboradores, que acaban de vender su software Trendalyzer Gapminder a Google, explican en estos dos videos cómo el juntar diseño con estadística nos hace más sabios y nos hace tumbar muchos tópicos nacidos de la necesidad de simplificar las cosas que tenemos los humanos para poderlas aprehender. Gapminder, que es (¿era?) una empresa non-profit, muestra como la tecnología y el diseño pueden ayudar a explicar la complejidad. Aquí podeis usar el software y todo. Una de las funcionalidades más exitosas a la hora de viralizar contenido ha sido la posibilidad de incrustar contenido residente en sites remotos en tu propio site. The task of strategic leadership is therefore not to follow a given formula or set of steps. Instead it is to gather appropriate information, evaluate it thoughtfully, and make choices that provide the best chance for the company to succeed, all the while recognizing the fundamental nature of business uncertainty. Paradoxically, a sober understanding of this risk—along with an appreciation of the relative nature of performance and the general tendency for performance to regress—may offer the best basis for guiding effective decisions. These complex decisions, made without any guarantee of success, are ultimately the main contribution of business strategists. If a set of steps that could guarantee success did exist, and if greatness were indeed simply a matter of will, then the value of clear thinking in business would be lower, not greater.
