Saca tu PC de su idle y para de buscar extraterrestres con Seti@home y ponte a ayudar a buscar a un desaparecido. Pablo Rodríguez, director científico de Telefónica I+D, ex senior researcher en los Research Labs de Microsoft y uno de mis compañeros de trabajo en la actualidad, me ha instado a participar en el rescate de un excompañero suyo en Microsoft desaparecido en el oceano hace unos días. Millares de voluntarios junto con Microsoft, Google, y Amazon están intentando localizar a Jim Gray,
un veterano y prestigioso investigador de Microsoft Research Labs que
salió el otro día en su velero y no ha vuelto. Su mujer denunció su
desaparición hace unos días. Se están utilizando al sistema del
almacenaje de S3 de Amazon y el Mechanical Turk de Amazon para hojear sobre millares de fotografías de satélite sobre el oceano intentando encontrar su barco.

La información de tal proceso de clasificación alimenta diversos algoritmos de Inteligencia artificial que dirijen la búsqueda por las imágenes. El mismo CTO de Amazon está implicado en el proceso.  Ayuda a buscar a Jim Gray.

The
efforts of the Mechanical Turk community during the last several days
have been remarkable. Your work has contributed to one of the largest
volunteer search efforts ever.

During the last 5 days, Mechanical Turk workers looked at more than 560,000 images from 3 satellites, covering nearly 3,500 square miles of
ocean. A group of experts is currently reviewing the images that
workers identified, and sending their results to the appropriate
authorities.
